EU funding for urban green spaces

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the projects Renovation of the Bloudek Park in Tivoli, Construction of the Savsko naselje Sports Park and Construction of the children's park by the pool.

As part of the project Renovation of the Bloudek Park in Tivoli, the City of Ljubljana will revitalise the playground that was built as far back as 1960. A total of 12,052.39 square meters of outdoor surfaces will undergo upgrade which will include a series of improvements to the playground. The park redevelopment will focus especially on safety, infrastructure improvements and revival of the initial concept of the playground to enhance the visitor experience and improve the playground's look, quality and attractiveness. The €1,412,053.34 project will receive €409,686.29 from the European Regional Development Fund.

Through the project Construction of the Savsko naselje Sports Park, the City of Ljubljana will revitalise a 17,432.03-square meter open space. As part of the redevelopment project, all old, haphazardly placed items, fences, and pieces of urban furniture will be removed. A circular paved path with cross connections will be installed; paved areas featuring modern and durable urban furniture and a number of trim trails trim will run along the main path. The €1,719,419.46 project will receive €316,240.81 from the European Regional Development Fund.

The ministry has also approved EU funding for the project Construction of the children’s park by the pool. As part of the project, the municipality of Slovenj Gradec will provide quality green spaces by building a park that will cater to the needs of both young children and teens. The design of the park will follow sustainable principles; natural materials will be used for park equipment and landscape design will feature autochthonous plants that will help improve microclimate conditions, reduce heat island effects and retain stormwater. Stretching across 7,957 square meters, the park will offer a safe, engaging and welcoming environment encouraging physical activity, play and interaction, while featuring educational elements to raise awareness of children and teens about the importance of nature protection and sustainable development. The €2,540,065.25 project will receive €1,248,579.30 from the European Regional Development Fund.

The three urban development projects will be implemented under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 in the scope of priority Green transformation for climate neutrality. They will pursue specific objective Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution.
