Eighteen countries from Central Europe and the Western Balkans participated in the workshop, which took place in Ljubljana. Participants discussed topical issues related to the challenges posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) – nuclear, biological and chemical. A simulation of the interception of WMD and dual-use shipments was also conducted. At the end of the workshop, the Slovenian organisers (Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and other relevant ministries) and the US organisers (representatives of the State Department and the Pentagon) expressed their satisfaction with the successful workshop, which demonstrated a unified approach of the US and European participants to preventing the proliferation of WMD.

The workshop was organised within the framework of the PSI, which has 115 members. Slovenia has been a member of the initiative since 2005.
