    The Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe hosted a reception on 2 July to mark the National Day and the 30th anniversary of the entry into force of the European Convention on Human Rights for the Republic of Slovenia

    On 25 June 2024, the Council of Europe hosted the opening of the exhibition "75 women in the 75-year history of the Council of Europe". Among the 75 women are two Slovenian women, Petra Roter and Alenka Puhar.

  • Minister Fajon: “The values and norms of the Council of Europe are more relevant than ever”

    In Strasbourg, Minister Tanja Fajon attended the 133rd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which focused on Ukraine, reviewed progress in implementing the decisions of the Fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government and adopted the first international instrument on artificial intelligence and human rights. She also represented Slovenia at the Commemorative Ceremony of the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe.

  • Council of Europe marks two years of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine

    The Council of Europe marked the second anniversary of the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić, President of the Parliamentary Assembly Theodoros Rousopoulos, Chairman of the Committee of Deputy Ministers and Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein Domenik Wanger, and Permanent Representative of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk addressed the attendees.

  • Permanent Representative Berta Mrak presented her credentials

    Ambassador Berta Mrak presented her credentials to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Maria Pejčinović Burić, and thus assumed her duties as Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe.

    An exhibition by Slovenian painter Katja Bednařik Sudec was held at the Council of Europe in January.

  • Commemoration of European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse

    On 18 November 2023, we celebrate the European Day for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. Slovenia, together with the initiating countries Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco and San Marino, has for the 9th year in a row prepared a declaration to mark this day. This year, 37 other European countries and the European Union have endorsed the joint declaration.

  • Visit of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, to Strasbourg

    On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia's membership in the Council of Europe, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, visited Strasbourg from 20 to 22 June, where she met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Tiny Kox, and the President of the European Court of Human Rights, Síofra O'Leary, and addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

  • Deposited instrument of ratification of the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data

    President Nataša Pirc Musar deposited on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia its instrument of ratification of the Protocol amending the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (CETS No. 223).

  • President of the Republic of Slovenia Pirc Musar, PhD, at the 4th Council of Europe Summit in Reykjavik

    The President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, PhD, attended the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe under the Icelandic Presidency of the Committee of Ministers in Reykjavik from 16 to 17 May 2023. Discussions focused on accountability for Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the promotion and protection of the Council of Europe's core values.

  • Slovenia ratifies the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents

    On 20 March 2023, the Republic of Slovenia ratified the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents, becoming the 14th State Party to the Convention. The Convention will officially enter into force for Slovenia on 1 July 2023.

  • Minister of Justice dr. Dominika Švarc Pipan and State Secretary dr. Igor Šoltes on a visit to the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights

    Minister of Justice dr. Dominika Švarc Pipan and State Secretary dr. Igor Šoltes visited the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and the Council of Europe, in light of the thirtieth anniversary of Slovenia's membership in the Council of Europe, which will take place next year.

  • Commemoration of European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse

    18th November 2022 we are celebrating European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. Slovenia together with initiating countries Andorra, Belgium, Monaco and San Marino prepared a statement to mark this day for the 8th year in a row. This year, another 40 European countries, plus Mexico, have backed a joint statement.

  • Minister Dr Logar at the 132nd session of Committee of Ministers of Council of Europe

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Anže Logar took part at the 132nd session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe organized by Italian Presidency in Turin. At the heart of the discussion was Council of Europe's response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Russian Federation was expelled from the Council of Europe on 16th of March 2022.

  • On World Bee Day focus on young people

    Today marks the fifth World Bee Day, declared by the UN General Assembly on Slovenia’s initiative on 20 December 2017. In this European Year of Youth, World Bee Day is dedicated to the future of beekeeping and the role of young people in raising awareness of its importance.

  • Ratification of two Council of Europe Conventions from the Republic of Slovenia

    Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe Ambassador Andrej Slapničar hand over today to the Deputy Secretary General of Council of Europe Bjorn Berge the instrument of ratification of two conventions: Council of Europe Convention on counterfeiting of medical products and similar crimes involving threats to public health (Medicrime) - CETS No. 211 and Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs – CETS No. 216.

    The Government of the Republic of Slovenia has made voluntary contributions to the Council of Europe to support three important areas of their work.

  • Commemoration of European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse

    Today, 18th November 2021, we are celebrating European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse. Slovenia is one of the initiating countries, which together with Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Monaco and San Marino prepared a statement to mark this day for the 7th year in a row. This year, the biggest number of countries have joint the statement – all 47 member states of the Council of Europe, the European Union and Tunisia.

  • Meeting of Minister Dr Logar with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Anže Logar met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić in Strasbourg. He presented priorities of Slovenia's presidency of the Council of the EU – topics that are also at the heart of Council of Europe's activities. During the meeting, they discussed accession of EU to the European Convention of Human Rights that was envisaged in the Lisbon treaty. They also reviewed other current political and strategic directions of the Council of Europe, the oldest pan-European international organization especially in the light of Covid-19. At the same time, the meeting was excellent opportunity to assess cooperation between Council of Europe and Slovenia.

  • Beware of Red Passport and Slovenian citizenship scams

    Third-country nationals should exercise the utmost caution in all dealings with companies that claim to offer assistance in obtaining Slovenian citizenship or Slovenian passports. Many websites and e-mail scams attempt to mislead individuals into believing the companies are offering to expedite citizenship or passport applications or are acting on behalf of the Slovenian authorities.
