  • Minister Fajon: Advocating for a peace acceptable to Ukraine and grounded in the UN Charter

    Minister Tanja Fajon attended the regular meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, chaired for the last time by High Representative Josep Borrell. Ministers discussed the war in Ukraine, Georgia, EU-US relations, the situation in the Middle East and the Horn of Africa. Minister Fajon also briefed ministers on her recent visit to Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.

  • Minister Fajon opens Slovenian Embassy in Ethiopia: Many doors are opening in African diplomatic hub

    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon held a bilateral meeting with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos in Addis Ababa to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, which will be greatly facilitated by the opening of the new Slovenian embassy in Ethiopia. The Minister inaugurated the embassy together with her Ethiopian counterpart and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms Kristina Radej.

  • Slovenia opens embassy in Addis Ababa

    The Slovenian Embassy in Addis Ababa is now open and is headed by the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Vesna Dolinšek. This is Slovenia’s second resident embassy in Africa, which will significantly strengthen Slovenia's political and economic relations with Ethiopia and countries in the wider region. It will also contribute to the accessibility of consular assistance to Slovenian citizens travelling in East African countries.

    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon is visiting Addis Ababa, where she is hosted by Ethiopian Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen Hassen. This is the first visit at foreign minister level and an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Slovenia and Ethiopia, as well as in the light of the forthcoming opening of the Slovenian Embassy in Addis Ababa.

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar today attended the regular meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg headed by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. In their discussions, the ministers focused on the Gulf, the Eastern Partnership and the situation in Ethiopia and Nicaragua.

    The 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva comes to an end today. At the initiative of the European Union, the Council discussed the human rights situation in Belarus, Eritrea and the Tigray region of Ethiopia. As the country presiding the Council of the EU, Slovenia presented the three initiatives that seek to improve the respective human rights situations and call on the authorities to respect their international human rights commitments.

    Today, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry hosted bilateral political consultations between Slovenia and Ethiopia, headed by the Acting Director-General for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Anita Pipan, and the Director-General for European and European Union Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ato Mehreteab Mulugeta. They addressed bilateral cooperation, including in economic matters, as well as cooperation at the multilateral level.
