Extended professional boards

The extended professional boards (EPBs) are the highest professional body in a particular medical field, tasked with formulating professional doctrine. They are made up of councillors, senior councillors, faculty teachers and other recognised experts in the field of health care. In their decisions, they are committed to scientific advances, peer-reviewed methods and the development of the profession, taking into the account the public health interest.

They coordinate proposals from clinics, professional associations and chambers, higher education institutions, healthcare institutions and individual experts. They also formulate professional doctrines on health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, nursing and rehabilitation of the sick, injured and people with physical and mental disabilities.

The Health Council, as the highest professional coordinating body in the field of healthcare, considers and approves expert proposals from the extended professional boards that affect the content and scope of health care, and hence healthcare policy and health care financing.
