As of 31 July 2024, I will conclude my five-year term as the Slovenian Consul General in Cleveland. During my tenure, I have endeavored to actively represent and promote all things Slovenian—culture, heritage, tourism, economy, science, etc., and to devote maximum attention to the activities of the Slovenian community here.

Increase of Schengen visa fees
The European Commission adopted a decision to increase short stay Schengen visa (visa type C) fees worldwide by 12 per cent. The increase will apply worldwide as of 11 June 2024.

Cleveland Kurentovanje
This year´s Cleveland Kurentovanje, held for the eleventh time, attracted over 15 thousand visitors from Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arizona, Washington, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere. The Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia actively participated in many events, which included culinary, music, sport events, and much more.

Celebration of Prešeren Day in Cleveland
On February 5 we celebrated Prešeren Day in Cleveland. February 8 marks the anniversary of death of France Prešeren, the greatest Slovenian poet, who died in 1849. This presentation featured Slovenian literature, poetry, and music.
Free vacancy – we are looking for a new person to add to our team
The Consulate General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland is hiring an individual for the position of Administrative Assistant, in charge of administrative tasks of the Consulate General.
The job will require in-person presence, up to 30 hours per week.
Our office is located in downtown Cleveland.
Description of work
- Personal Assistant to the Consul General.
- Assistance in preparation and implementation of the Consulate General's meetings and events, mostly in the office (occasionally out of office events),
- Daily administrative and technical tasks, correspondence management, archiving, assistance in inventory of fixed assets, and record keeping.
Requirements
- Good written and spoken communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Slovenian language is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of working with information technology for office use: Windows, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint presentations, and a willingness to learn.
- Social media skills (Facebook, Instagram, others).
- US citizenship, or for non-US candidates, a valid visa/work permit or green card.
- The ability to work flexible hours, occasionally in the evening or on weekends.
- Good teamwork spirit.
- Good organizational skills.
- Flexibility.
- Positive attitude.
Start date: Summer 2025
This is a contracted position for up to 30 hours per week.
The contract will be concluded for a duration of one year, with a three-month probationary period and a possibility to extend after the first year.
The salary and the weekly hours are subject to discussion with the candidates.
