About the Permanent Mission to the Council of Europe Strasbourg

Welcome to the website of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe Strasbourg where you will find key information about the operation of our representation and events related to Slovenia and the Council of Europe. Slovenia became a member of the Council of Europe on 14 May 1993 and quickly asserted itself as a successful member with a recognized high degree of respect for human and minority rights as well as strong rule of law. In 2009, the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe presented itself both as a particular challenge and an opportunity for Slovenia.

The main task of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe is to represent the interests of the Republic of Slovenia at this organisation. The representation takes place once a year in the form of a Committee of Ministers session where we are represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Committee of Ministers Deputies and its committees meetings usually take place weekly. There we are represented by the permanent representative and the diplomatic staff. The Permanent Representation also regularly follows the work of other Council of Europe institutions such as the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, implementation of the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights and promotes intergovernmental cooperation on the field of human rights, rule of law and democracy. You are warmly invited to follow us on our social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook, where we post the activities of our permanent representation and the Council of Europe.
