Employment and Traineeship with the Council of Europe

The Council of Europe Secretariat employs around 1300 staff from all 46 member states (before 47) following the decision of the Committee of Ministers on 16 March 2022 to expel the Russian federation from the Council of Europe because of its aggression against Ukraine. Employees are working on human rights, media, democracy, legal cooperation, social and economic issues, health, education, culture and heritage, sport, youth, local and regional authorities, the environment, administration, finance, data processing, documentation, public relations, translation and other areas.

Fair representation of member states is taken into account by the Council of Europe’s human resources policy. More information on the employment opportunities and the list of current vacancies is available at the Council of Europe Jobs website.

In addition to permanent employment, the Council of Europe offers traineeships in various Secretariat sectors. The traineeship is paid and it offers important experience and provides an overview of the operation of an international organisation.
