Today is Slovenian Food Day, intended to raise awareness of the importance of locally produced food and to support domestic producers. The traditional Slovenian breakfast serves as an introduction to the event, for the tenth year in a row, even in all schools and kindergartens. Because schooling is currently being done remotely, the joint meal will be replaced by learning about the importance of Slovenian food.
Slovenian Food Day is an opportunity to support Slovenian food producers and processors, to serve locally produced food, to support the efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment, and to preserve the countryside. This is also an opportunity for teaching young people about the processes of producing and processing food.
Farmers, other food producers, and the entire food sector have been severely affected by the current conditions marked by the coronavirus crisis. This is why it is very pleasing to hear that two hundred million euros will be available to Slovenia as of Tuesday, which the country has received in the framework of the Sure scheme for helping protect and preserve jobs in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Slovenian government has made its top priority to preserve jobs, which is why the Sure programme “suits us down to the ground”, said Janez Cigler Kralj, Minister of Labour.
