Slovenia is a land of forests. 3/5 of its area is covered with forests, which means that almost every Slovenian town lies next to a forest. This year’s Forest Week, which will last until Sunday, will be organised under the slogan “Forest Care: Today for Tomorrow, for Nature and People”. Forest care is the main tool for directing the development of forests, and the cornerstone of prudent forest management.
On Wednesday, the National Assembly held a secret voting session and elected Robert Golob, president of the Gibanje Svoboda political party, the formateur of the new government. Friday’s 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling race will, for the second year in a row, run on the Slovenian side of the border for a couple of kilometres. On 27 May, Slovenian enthusiasts will be able to welcome the 177 kilometres-long 19th stage of the Giro, which will also run on Slovenian territory. The race will start at Marano Lagunare and finish at Santuario di Castelmonte in Italy, and the participants will also race along the green hills and plateaus of the Soča valley. Similarly to last year, the pink caravan will receive a grand reception, and the municipalities of Bovec, Kobarid and Tolmin have been thoroughly preparing for months on this 37 km-long event in the Soča valley.
