Slovenia's 15th Government took office on 1 June, just over a month after the parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Robert Golob has already taken over office from outgoing Prime Minister Janez Janša. The new Prime Minister stressed that the Government would use the summer to prepare for the autumn: "In the autumn, we will need to work hard to ensure that key challenges, from soaring food and energy costs to healthcare issues, are not only identified but also addressed." The Prime Minister added that challenging months lied ahead and that a strong coalition with a broadly united programme would contribute to the Government’s success. "As I have previously announced in the National Assembly, now is the time for us to put words into action," Mr Golob said.
On Monday 30 May we sadly said goodbye to Boris Pahor, the famous writer and thinker from Trieste. Throughout his life, Pahor drew attention to the dangers of totalitarian regimes, of which he himself was a victim, and of the need for a self-confident, upright attitude in the broadest sense of the word, which can only be based on a sound knowledge of history and one’s own identity. The writer, also a sworn fighter for the rights of endangered languages and members of endangered cultures, always emphasised that national awareness was essential for the survival of Slovenians in Italy and of mankind and humanity in the world.
