Since taking office on 1 June 2022, the Government has made it a priority to tackle high energy and food costs and has already adopted a comprehensive package of mitigation and targeted measures involving all key segments of society in the first 100 days of its term. Ahead of the colder months, the Government is taking action to help the most vulnerable in the face of the high cost of living. Yesterday it adopted a new measure to help families with children. In November, December and January, it will double the child benefit payment.
On Thursday, Slovenia celebrated Return of Primorska to the Motherland Day. The holiday marks 15 September 1947, when the Paris Peace Treaty entered into force, by which Italy ceded sovereignty over, among other things, the Upper Soča Valley, the Vipava Valley, most of the Karst and a small part of Istria to the then Yugoslavia. The state celebration took place on the eve of the holiday in Portorož, which, like other coastal towns, became part of Slovenia only in 1954. On this occasion, Prime Minister Robert Golob emphasised the culture of respect, embedded in the identity of the people of Primorska, which is today also being extended to politics. This is why this holiday is not only a reminder of the rights won in the past, but also a moment to reflect on the values and heritage we are passing to future generations.
