Slovenia Weekly: Alongside tolerant and inclusive countries

Following a suspensive veto by the National Council, the National Assembly approved for the second time amendments to the Family Code. After the amendments, a marriage is a union between two individuals and same-sex partners are allowed to adopt children. The Government commended the National Council’s decision. "By adopting the amended Family Code, Slovenia stands alongside tolerant and inclusive European countries such as Austria, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Scandinavian countries, which are open to all individuals in society."

Slovenia was officially announced as the Guest of Honour of the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair. According to the Minister of Culture, Dr Asta Vrečko, the Frankfurt Book Fair is much more than just a fair of publishers and authors. It is a dialogue and a meeting place of various ideas and views. As the Guest of Honour in 2023, Slovenia will, by showcasing its cultural diversity, invite the national and international public to engage in a dialogue with Slovenian culture and art.

New offspring of the olm or the human fish are expected to hatch in Postojna Cave. One of the females laid new eggs in early summer, which developed successfully and almost all hatchlings have already encountered the dark of the cave. New baby dragons are joining the famous hatchlings from 2016.
