150 million euros will be available for sports infrastructure in Slovenia over the next five years. The government has adopted a programme of investment in sports infrastructure, with priority given to training sports facilities and outdoor sports areas, which will be available free of charge to all Slovenian citizens.
Recreational sports are an important social sector in Slovenia, as a high proportion of the population is physically active. Ljubljana hosts the annual recreational sports event “Path Along the Wire” from Thursday to Saturday before 9 May, when Ljubljana celebrates the city holiday and Europe commemorates the end of the Second World War. It is the largest recreational sports event in the country, attracting more than 30,000 participants every year. In addition to preserving historical memory, the annual march, which will be the 65th this year, encourages people to live active and healthy lives, to socialise with each other and to take care of their environment.
In the media freedom rankings published by Reporters Without Borders since 2002, Slovenia has moved up four places compared to the previous year and is now in 50th place. The improvement in the rankings is mainly due to the normalisation of the situation at the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), where the government abolished the harmful regulation with which the previous government had been putting pressure on and financially draining the national press agency for almost a year.
