Slovenia Weekly: A symbol of progress

The modernisation of the railway line between Maribor and Šentilj is officially completed. The project, which, in addition to the upgrading of 18 kilometres of existing track and construction of almost four kilometres of new track, included a number of other works, represents the largest Slovenian cohesion project investment under the previous EU Financial Perspective.

According to Prime Minister Robert Golob, railways have always been a symbol of progress, and the Government has devoted special attention to investments in railway infrastructure. "The funds needed for this run into billions of euros. An entire generation will have to contribute towards this type of investment. But that is the only path forward if we want to take advantage of our geographical position. Logistics is an economic sector where Slovenia has the greatest natural advantages," he said.

At its session, the Government adopted a rehabilitation programme to deal with the consequences of the August floods. It envisages EUR 2.33 billion for flood recovery in the 2024–2028 period, of which EUR 360.98 million this year. More details are available in an article published in Slovenia Weekly.

A new episode of the GOVSI podcast is also available, with Romano Prodi as special guest. He was invited to participate on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Slovenia’s accession to the EU. Mr Prodi also spoke about relations between Slovenia and Italy and current events in global politics.
