Slovenia Weekly: Ambassadors for raising Slovenia’s profile

The Government took note of the Autumn Forecast of Economic Trends 2024 prepared by the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development. Economic growth is set to moderate this year (1.5%) amid stagnating investment and a weak recovery in foreign demand, below UMAR's spring expectations (2.4%). GDP growth is expected to pick up again over the next two years (2.4% in 2025 and 2.5% in 2026). Slovenia's economic growth remains significantly higher than the eurozone average, as underlined by Prime Minister Robert Golob.

This week, the Prime Minister received Slovenian sports heroes who took part in the Olympic Games in Paris. The Slovenian Government has also been preparing for these Olympic Games for several years. "For the first time, we as a country invested resources in the Olympic Games that we have not in the past. We also want to use the Olympic Games to promote our country, because we believe that sport serves as an ambassador that brings people together and, as such, helps to raise the profile of Slovenia."

Slovenia's reputation in the world media as a unique homeland to many top athletes is also the subject of an article in Slovenia Weekly. The name and images of Slovenia flooded the cycling world in the past week, when it became clear that Primož Roglič already had the red jersey of the leader of the Tour of Spain in his hands. Together with Tadej Pogačar, who won the pink and yellow jersey at the Italian and French grand tours, he put Slovenia among only three countries that have won all three of the world's biggest, longest and most prestigious races in the same year.
