Slovenia Weekly: Honest broker

"Slovenia strives to be an honest broker, a builder of bridges and consensus between countries. Our policy is based on the values and principles of the United Nations. We are trying to implement what we promised in our campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. We aim to apply the same standards to all conflicts," said Prime Minister Robert Golob at the main event of Slovenia's Presidency of the UN Security Council, namely the open debate "Leadership for Peace", which focused on the functioning of the Security Council in relation to three foreign policy issues: Ukraine, the Middle East and Sudan.

This week, Prime Minister Golob attended high-level events and the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he delivered four keynote speeches. He delivered the keynote speech at the main event of the Slovenian Presidency of the UN Security Council, Leadership for Peace, and chaired the debate at the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine. In addition to speeches at the Summit for the Future and in the General Assembly, he was the keynote speaker at an event dedicated to children from Gaza, organised by the organisation Save the Children. The Slovenian Prime Minister will begin today, the last day of his visit to the United States, by participating in the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will be the first speaker.  He will conclude the day by chairing the highest-level Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.
