Slovenia Weekly: Nationwide health project

The week from 11 to 17 November 2024 marks the first Slovenian Food Week, whose aim is to encourage the rediscovery of traditional dishes and the benefits of locally produced food. On the proposal of 11 professional organisations led by the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Association and supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, in December 2023 the Slovenian Government adopted the decision on declaring the third week in November Slovenian Food Week. Slovenian Food Week highlights the importance of choosing local food and raises awareness about the benefits of eating Slovenian food products. The aim is for people to choose Slovenian food more often and support local farmers and producers.

Today, the first Slovenian Food Week will be rounded off with a traditional Slovenian breakfast, which will mark an important part of the Slovenian Food Week from now on. For the 14th year in a row, on the third Friday in November many schools, kindergartens and other educational institutions will start their day with the traditional Slovenian breakfast, which promotes the local and raises awareness of self-sufficiency in food. This year's project highlights all five ingredients of the traditional Slovenian breakfast, which are bread, butter, milk, apples and honey. Its slogan is "Traditional Slovenian Breakfast – My Favourite Breakfast!”
