Slovenia Weekly: Tackling challenges with optimism

At the traditional reception for the diplomatic corps to mark the start of the New Year, Prime Minister Robert Golob pointed out in his address that the Slovenian Government was well aware of all the challenges faced both on the domestic and foreign policy fronts. Over the past year, the Government has managed to stabilise the economy, which is in excellent shape in Slovenia. It has managed to stabilise public finances, so that the deficit is much lower than expected and public debt is also lower despite the challenging environment.  As the budget for the next two years has already been adopted, it can plan its actions with a great deal of hope and optimism.

Optimism and creativity are also prevailing before the start of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture, less than a month away. Nova Gorica and Gorizia are preparing for a historic moment when, on 8 February 2025, the Slovenian Cultural Holiday, they will jointly become the first cross-border European Capital of Culture (ECOC). The slogan "GO! Borderless!" symbolises transcending borders and highlights the cooperation between the two cities, which will transform 2025 into a stage for more than 400 official events and as many side events.
