Animal Health and Welfare Division
The Division provides background papers and premises for the development of policies and strategies to ensure the health and welfare of animals and for the development of other areas of administration.
The main tasks carried out by the Division concern:
- animal diseases and zoonoses;
- animal welfare;
- preparedness and crisis planning related to the occurrence of certain particularly dangerous animal diseases and zoonoses.
The Division is actively involved in the drafting of EU legislation on animal health and welfare. It draws up national rules governing its scope of work. It is also actively involved in the working groups of EU institutions and other international organisations, which allows for more professional and effective work with a view to ensuring high standards of animal health and welfare. The Division is responsible for the health and welfare of both farm animals and pets. Its work is inevitably linked with other services and authorities in the Republic of Slovenia and NGOs.
