By means of measuring instruments, probes and communication lines, it monitors the level of radioactivity in the Slovenian environment on a daily basis. There are 72 measuring sites and probes throughout the country, of which 16 are distributed around the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, which forms an "early warning network". Radioactivity monitoring is also provided in the area of the former uranium mine at Žirovski vrh, in the surroundings of the TRIGA research reactor and the Central Radioactive Waste Storage Facility at Brinje.

Among other things, the Monitoring Section also actively participates in the nuclear sector’s cyber security and in emergency action plans and provides IT support for the Administration’s business processes.
