Franc Ravnihar holds a Bachelor's degree in geodesy (Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering). He boasts many years of experience in the field of real estate registration and land policy. At the beginning of his career, he was for the first eight years employed in the largest Slovenian geodetic company – the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, then he was the head of the Inter-Municipal Geodetic Administration of Kranj and Tržič for two years, and for ten years of the Regional Surveying and Mapping Authority of Kranj. For the last nineteen years, he has been Director of the Real Estate Office at the Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia. In addition to his regular duties, he actively participated in several projects implemented by or involving the Surveying and Mapping Authority (ONIX project, PHARE project for the development of geodetic infrastructure and harmonisation of cadastral data with the Land Register, eProstor project group) and was a member of several inter-ministerial work groups. He also chaired the Council of the Geodetic Institute of Slovenia for two terms.
