Vesna Humar (b. 1977) graduated summa cum laude from the general upper secondary school (gimnazija) in Nova Gorica. She obtained a university degree in comparative literature from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana in 2002 and in journalism from the Faculty of Social Sciences in 2003. She began her career as a correspondent for the national commercial broadcaster Pop TV. Subsequently she joined Radio Koper, where, as part of the news programme’s editorial team, she was in charge of cross-border topics and co-created the programme Sotočja (Confluence), which is dedicated to compatriots across the border and around the world.  In 2004, she joined the editorial board of Primorske novice (Primorska News) and in 2007 assumed the role of Editor-in-Chief of this daily regional newspaper, leading the editorial board for two terms. In 2019, she assumed the role of coordinating the cross-border team for Nova Gorica and Gorizia’s application for the European Capital of Culture. She is the editor and co-author of the two application books that were the basis for the awarding of the title to Nova Gorica in 2020. She researches the history of emigration through the migration phenomenon of Alexandrian women and girls who went to work temporarily in Alexandria and Cairo between 1850 and 1940. She is the author of two documentaries on this subject, has edited two monographs, published several articles and papers, and curated a permanent exhibition at the House of the Alexandrian Women in Prvačina.
