The Creativity Directorate is responsible for the implementation of public calls for proposals and public invitations, through which many authors and artists who work in the fields of culture and the arts can find work. Their projects and programmes are also financed directly through the calls for proposals of the Slovenian Book Agency and the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia. The Creativity Directorate is responsible for the operation of national and many municipal theatres, Cankarjev dom, SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, SNG Maribor, the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, and the Slovenian Philharmonic. It offers scholarships for the study of art at foreign universities, guarantees social rights to the self-employed in culture, provides pension supplements for older authors and artists, and drafts legislation in the wider field of culture, thereby providing a supportive environment for creative endeavours.
