Marine Accident and Incident Investigation
The Unit investigates marine accidents and incidents by identifying the causes, especially with a view to preventing similar accidents in the future. It draws up reports for improving maritime transport safety, reports to the Government, and advises and reports to the responsible minister.
Furthermore, the Unit reports on its work to international organisations – the International Maritime Organization, the European Commission and the European Maritime Safety Agency. It cooperates with the European Maritime Safety Agency, the Marine Accident Investigators' International Forum and, on an ongoing basis, with marine accident investigation bodies.
The Unit sits on various commissions and cooperates with Slovenian judicial authorities.
